Q.What kind of music do AydrA play?
AydrA play technical death metal with progressive and thrash roots — the old school of the genre, in the vein of Death, Cynic, Atheist and Pestilence. They are considered one of the pioneering bands of Italian technical death metal.
Q.Where are AydrA from?
AydrA are from the Marche region of Italy, in the Ancona area (between Falconara Marittima and Monte San Vito). The band's roots go back to 1986 under the name Hydra.

The band formed in 1986 as Hydra, playing power/thrash metal. In 1991, with the arrival of Mauro Pacetti (bass/vocals) and Francesco Olivi (guitar), the sound shifted to technical thrash/death metal and the band became AydrA.

Icon of Sin (1999), their first full-length: pure technical death metal, regarded as a cult album and a landmark of the Italian tech-death scene. It scored 100/100 on Flash and 91% on Metal Archives, and received a definitive CD reissue on 24 July 2026 via Rude Awakening Records.

Leave to Nowhere (2024, Rude Awakening Records) is a concept album about a migrant's journey from Eritrea to Europe — desert, Libyan camps, the Mediterranean, detention centres. It was AydrA's first album in twenty years and earned an 8.51/10 average across international reviews, with several Best Metal Album 2024 awards.
