40 Years of Chaos · EP.04 — Penance Stare
Penance Stare was recorded between December 1994 and January 1995 at what the J-card calls Falconara's Cemetery, with a Tascam Porta One and an Alesis Microverb III. Four tracks: Dream's Door, Penance Stare, Carnage and Vengeance. The lyrics were dated 30 and 31 October 1993 and recorded a year later.
For the first time the vocals were split in a structured way. Mauro took lead on Dream's Door and Penance Stare, Giovanni stayed lead on Carnage and Vengeance. It was an early hint of Mauro's future specialization as the main voice of the band.
Around the tape ran a season of live shows across the Marche: Thrash 'till Death at Castel d'Emilio on 26 March 1994, Dark Side of Thrash at the Coop Senigallia on 16 July, Sound from the Dark at Camerata Picena on 17 September, the Palasport in Senigallia, Villa Ajello in Macerata. At a contest in Osimo on 1 April 1994, against over thirty original-music bands, AydrA came first.
Then Corrado Di Noto left. The plan had been six tracks; only four made it onto tape. Soon after, a name began circulating in the local scene: Nicola Raffaeli, the drummer who could play the whole of Reign in Blood.
