40 Years of Chaos · EP.05 — David Lenci and Sound Machine

Saturday 16 July 1994, Coop Senigallia, the Dark Side of Thrash show. AydrA played alongside Arcana. At the mixing desk was David Lenci, owner of a small studio called Sound Machine Recording in Pianello d'Ostra. Lenci was struck by the band, and at the end of the night he proposed they record an album.

The band accepted. 1995 became the year of pre-production: the line-up gathered in the rehearsal room to rearrange material from Penance Stare, add new tracks and push the sound toward a more structured technical thrash and death. The plan was ambitious but realistic, a five-track mini CD recorded professionally, to be pitched to Italian independent labels. For the first time AydrA would enter a real studio. No more Tascam Porta One in the rehearsal room. It was the first leap in quality.

For Lenci the meeting mattered just as much. AydrA were among the very first projects he followed as a producer, one of the three debut albums of his career alongside For Pain Relief by Three Second Kiss and the first One Dimensional Man record by Pier Paolo Capovilla. In 1999 he would found Red House Recordings, where more than 250 artists passed through in a decade. It started in a small room in Pianello d'Ostra.
