40 Years of Chaos · EP.06 — Psycho Pain Control, the Record

The sessions ran through 1995 at Sound Machine Rec. Five tracks: three carried over from the Penance Stare demo, Penance Stare, Carnage and Dream's Door, one from Demo 4, Revenge, plus a new piece written for the occasion, the title track Psycho Pain Control. It was the first track Mauro had written as both lyricist and composer, a step change in the band's writing. Nicola Raffaeli made his AydrA debut on drums, replacing Corrado Di Noto.

The record was produced by David Lenci and Mauro Pacetti, recorded and mixed by Lenci with the band, and mastered by Giovanni Versari at Officina Sonica in Bologna, an engineer who would go on to become one of Italy's most awarded. Marcello Lammoglia played a clean guitar part on the title track before he had officially joined the band.

The cover came from original paintings by Lorenzo Luzi, pre-existing canvases the band chose as front and back. Sun-bleached architecture and faceless figures in the manner of De Chirico's metaphysical painting, crossed with echoes of Dalí. An iconography of restless stillness for music that folds in on itself. Released September 1996, catalogue LUNCD01 / DOSCD03. The promo flyers said it plainly: brutal thrash/death, no trends, no alternative inside.
