40 Years of Chaos · EP.14 — Napalm Death and the Golden Live Years

On 15 December 2001, at 22:30, AydrA walked onto the stage of the Mamamia in Senigallia to open for Napalm Death. They joined the bill at the last minute, replacing Huge Baby, who pulled out. It was one of the most internationally significant opening slots of the whole post-Icon of Sin era — the labyrinthine, cerebral technical death of the album thrown in front of an audience raised on pure grindcore. The band held the stage. It was the definitive confirmation.

That night was the highest point of the 1999-2001 quintet, but not an isolated one. Seven months earlier, on 19 May 2001 at the Blaster in Monsano, the Death Metal Party billed The Last Day, Undertakers, AydrA and P.L.P. — with Mauro playing in two different bands on the same night.

Around those dates the circuit widened: Avulsed on the Gorespattering Tour Europe, Sadist, Infernal Poetry, Dark Lunacy, Disease. Stage after stage, AydrA stopped being a Marche band playing in the Marche and became part of the European death and grindcore flow of the early 2000s. It was the most intense live stretch the band would ever live through.
