40 Years of Chaos · EP.18 — Hyperlogical Non-Sense: The Apex

AydrA moved to Lucca to record at Frank Andiver's Zenith Studios. The sessions stretched across late 2003 and early 2004 and produced eleven tracks and thirty-eight minutes of music: cerebral writing, irregular meter, constructed dissonance. Andiver brought a new production quality into the sound — layered guitars, three-dimensional drums, a bass that finally emerged from the mix. Hyperlogical Non-Sense came out on Xtreme Rising / Rising Works in 2004, the technical and compositional apex of the band's career.

The concept was philosophical rather than narrative: hyperlogical nonsense is the state in which a mind, pushed to analyse every detail of reality, loses contact with the real itself. The lyrics — mostly Mauro's, three of them by Mastro — move between religious and ideological dogma, identity splits, obsessive paranoia.

The cover was conceived by Mauro Pacetti and drawn by Loretta Militano, a visual artist from Rimini. A naked, despairing man in an asylum room; on the floor a book, its pages torn out and pinned to the walls, telling his past and his future. The cover of that book is literally the cover of the CD — an impossible time loop. The six booklet pages are handwritten, as if torn straight from the book itself: the packaging is part of the artwork.
