40 Years of Chaos · EP.20 — The Void and the Return of Hydra

Between the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008 AydrA stopped. No formal announcement, no farewell concert, no statement. The band simply stopped playing, and the last dates of 2007 turned out to be the last for five years.

The reasons were many, and all of them were life. Francesco, a graduate in civil engineering, began working for a major company that sent him to Libya, Japan and finally Australia for four years. Andrea Mastromarco left on humanitarian missions in Africa with Médecins Sans Frontières. Davide returned to Urbino. In 2008 Mauro's first daughter, Zoe, was born, and he devoted himself to his new family. So began The Void: from 2008 to 2012 no songs, no concerts, no communications.

And yet, in that same 2008, something strangely circular happened. Hydra — the root, the name from which everything had begun, the raw heavy/thrash form that had mutated into AydrA — came back to life, brought back by its founding members. It wasn't a replacement and it wasn't a step back: two lines that had parted ways simply kept existing in different forms. As one creature went into hibernation, its primordial form re-emerged from the past. It would be Mastro, in 2012, back from a mission, who picked up the phone.
